A couple of dates for your diaries and other news

A couple of dates for your diaries: Banchory Volunteering Fair on 20th April 2024 from 10am to 2pm at the Town Hall and our open day on 4th May at the Legion from 10am to 2pm (see poster below).

In other news, three more laptops have been refurbished for passing on to deserving individuals. Peter Ledingham has done a super refurbishment of a wooden train that had suffered from the elements. It is believed to have carried a house number at one time. Have a look at the photo below. We have had a good response to our appeal for bridge players and are now looking for enough players for a third table. We have acquired the necessary packs of cards for up to 21 boards.

What we do at the shed

Here is an updated overview of activities at the Shed. First and foremost, the Shed provides the opportunity fo chat with other members over a cup of tea or coffee in a warm and welcoming space sitting on comfortable chairs. Whether you want to talk about football or the weather, there is always someone to chat to. The sessions at which there is the largest attendance are those on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

In addition to the social side, the Shed provides members with  the opportuity to participate in a wide range of activies. It has an extensively equipped workshop for undertaking woodworking projects such as making planters or bird boxes. You can bring your own project to work on or participate in a collaborative project being undertaken by the Shed. There is also a lathe for metal work projects. This is handy if you are making parts for a model locomotive or cannons for a model galleon.

Talking of models, we have recently acquired a 3D printer and have used this on a number of projects,  such as printing windows for model railway buildings. Help is available for those wanting to learn about 3D printing. This is also true  of the tools in the workshop. We do however, ask members to undertake  a safety briefing before using them. Other activities include the construction of  a model railway layout. We run model making sessions and are keen to develop the model raiilway and other modellling activities and would very much welcome anyone interested in these.

We have a number of members who are keen bridge players and are looking to expand bridge at the Shed so that we can run duplicate bridge sessions. All levels of abiility are welcome to join in from beginners to grand masters. So do come along to the sessions which are on Wednesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.

We also provide the opportunity to play darts and chess. We are grateful for the donation of laptops for refurbishment and passing on to deserving individuals. We provide a repair and fabrication service for local good causes. Finally it is worth mentioning that the membership of the Shed have a huge pool of knowledge and there is always someone you can ask for advice.
