River Dee Radio benefits from support by Banchory Men’s Shed

River Dee Radio have recently taken delivery of a new Operations Desk, built and installed by the Banchory Men’s Shed.  This custom-built desk replaces the standard tables previously in use and provides specific work and equipment areas for radio operations, mike supports, computer location and so forth.  The desk was tailored to make best use of the space within the River Dee Radio room (at Banchory Legion).

The above picture shows the completed desk in use.  BMS’s Alan Pumfrey was also being interviewed by River Dee Radio to promote the Banchory Men’s Shed.

BMS are very pleased to be able to make a contribution in this way to help River Dee Radio’s continuing growth towards becoming a key resource for the River Dee area.

You can find out more about River Dee Radio on their Facebook page, listen directly on the web here, or by downloading any radio app such as TuneIn and searching for River Dee Radio.

Tim Green visits Banchory Men’s Shed

Today we were honoured to have Tim Green visit us from Age Scotland.  He is their Men’s Shed development officer for the eastern part of Scotland and came all the way from his Dunfermline base to offer us help and advice.  His advice on funding and other aspects, and general experience from other Men’s Sheds all around his patch was extremely valuable.

Our thanks goes out to Tim and we look forward to having more contact with him in future.

Chalmers Bakery come up trumps again

Chalmers Bakery 15 May 2016

Banchory & District Men’s Shed would like to thank the staff and customers of Chalmers Bakery, once again, for the latest charity tin donation of £25.07.  Pictured are Vicky & Margaret from Chalmers handing over the tin to Alan Kelman. Our fledgling group rely on the generosity of donors and is very grateful for all support.

The Shed out and about with Banchory District Litter Pick

Banchory Men’s Shed were delighted to assist today with the Banchory District Initiative Litter Pickup.

The photo above shows the Shed contingent before the main team had arrived. Also consider this photo a (small) challenge for those you eagle eyed on the matter of apostrophes.

Our thanks to all who turned out – the Organisers, Scouts, members of the public and individual Shedders. A successful day but why do we have to do it to keep Banchory bonnie? Education – its so easy to bin your rubbish or take it home in the first place!

Generous Donation from Banchory Round Table

Today, Alan Pumfrey, the Chairman of Banchory Men’s Shed has very gratefully received a cheque for £2000 from Mike Sibson, the Chairman of Banchory Round Table.  This will be used toward construction of Phase 1 of the Mens’ Shed at The Legion in Ramsey Road (see here).

This is a fantastic gesture from the Banchory Round and it is very much appreciated by the “Shedders” Community.  This generous donation will help us move our initial plans forward to develop a ‘Shed’ in Banchory.

The BMS has achieved much in its first year due to the drive and dedication of its inaugural members however, we still have a long way to go before we have sufficient funds available to create a ‘Shed’ for the benefit of our community.

Whilst the local community has been generous in its support so far we still urgently require more funding to fulfil our goal and every little does indeed help.

Donations can be made through our Chairman

With our sincere thanks,
from all at the Banchory Men’s Shed

Mearns Academy kindly donates equipment

A working group from the Banchory Men’s Shed attended the ‘old’ Mearns Academy in Laurencekirk back on the 11th of April 2016 to carry out a removal exercise of plant and equipment not needed by them and so kindly donated by their Governing Authority to the Banchory Men’s Shed. This equipment goes a long way to providing much of the “traditional” equipment often found in Men’s Sheds around the world.  (All we need now is a Shed!)

The exercise took three days and the pictures below show the “haul” from just one of the days.

The removed equipment is being relocated to our ‘home’ at the Banchory Legion Scotland premises in Ramsay Road where it will be stored until we receive sufficient grant funding to enable the premises to be converted as per the plan.

Many thanks to all the team who turned up on the day and for the sterling work undertaken.
